Good health should never be the cost of success in sports

09-Dec-2018

Key points from article :

Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (Red-S) is a rising condition among amateur sportspeople.

Sportspeople restrict their diet in the belief that weight loss will keep improving performance.

But as a result some of the body's functions begin to shut down.

Lowers hormone levels, bone density, metabolic rate and increases mental health problems.

Affects male and female athletes and became a recognised condition in 2014.

British Athletics along with others are working to ensure awareness and treatment of Red-S.
