Organization committed to raising awareness of the relevance and practicality of transhumanist insights
Transhumanism is the viewpoint that human society should embrace, wisely and thoughtfully, the radical transformational potential of technology. Recent and forthcoming breakthroughs in technology fields such as nanotechnology, synthetic biology, renewable energy, regenerative medicine, brain sciences, big data analytics, robotics, and artificial intelligence can:
- Enable humans to transcend (overcome) many of the deeply debilitating, oppressive, and risky aspects of our lives
- Allow everyone a much wider range of personal autonomy, choice, experience, and fulfillment
- Facilitate improved international relations, social harmony, and a sustainable new cooperation with nature and the environment.
The policies we advocate are designed to facilitate these positive transformations whilst avoiding adverse consequences.
Future Surge started life in a previous form in 2015, as the UK Transhumanist Party (TPUK), and has also been known as Transhumanist UK.
The new name (Future Surge) and associated changes in emphasis are intended:
- To connect more easily with many potential supporters who might at first be deterred by up-front wording such as “transhumanist”
(but without obscuring the grounding of the movement in the philosophy of active transhumanism, which is frequently mentioned on our website)
- To align with changes in public expectations, fears, and hopes
- To help share our messages more widely in the run-up to elections in the UK in 2024
