The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) in Mainz, Germany, is a non-profit research center founded in 2011. Supported by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, IMB focuses on studying gene regulation, epigenetics, and genome stability to understand human development, aging, and disease. The institute has over 200 international researchers, with labs working in English. Core funding has included €100 million from Boehringer Ingelheim (2010-2020), with additional funding since 2020. Led by founding director Christof Niehrs and executive director Helle Ulrich, IMB conducts basic research and offers extensive scientific management support and training programs.
