Aging and Blood - Irina Conboy presentation for SENS Research Foundation
Part of a series organized by SENS Research Foundation's Education Department
Dr. Irina Conboy presents some of her latest published research.
Followed by an interesting Q&A which included the following comments:
- Some old factor proteins have positive feedback (attach to receptors which drives more transcription) - so diluting is more effect than just the immediate reduction
- Don't need to introduce young factors, as old factors can inhibit them - so once removed, young factors expressed again
- neutral blood exchange (NBE) may work as a senomorphic
- Lots of people contact her interested in having the treatment, BUT...
- Studies so far don't show it is safe - e.g. heparin used so blood clotting factors change
- some blood cells (which aren't removed) may be damaged by the process (procedure currently only approved for serious illness, e.g. organ rejection)
- Conboy doesn't think it will result in stable rejuvenation
- Dobri Kiprov is doing another clinical trial with 40 people - placebo controlled with mock TPE
