Obesity has major effects on the brain

Brains of overweight people look "10 years older" than those of leaner peers

Cambridge University team found that white matter loss was exacerbated with extra weight.

Research team looked at the brains of 473 people aged between 20 and 87.

People in the overweight group had much less white matter than their thinner counterparts.

Brain could be particularly vulnerable during middle age.

Future plan of the team is to find out whether these changes could be reversible with weight loss.

The study was published in the journal Neurobiology of Aging.
