Cancers linked to obesity rising fastest in young adults

Four times faster increase in pancreatic cancers in the younger generation

Risk of 12 cancers is significantly linked to obesity.

Includes colorectal, kidney, pancreatic and multiple myeloma cancers.

Half of these are rising faster in the youngest age groups in the US.

Young adults are living more of their lives overweight.

Between 1995 and 2014, the 25-29 year-old age group had the biggest increases in obesity-linked cancers.

E.g. pancreatic cancers rose 4.3 % a year, compared with less than 1 % a year in over 45s.

Recommends more obesity screening and weight loss counselling.

The study was published in the journal Lancet Public Health.
