Store providing chemicals, equipment and materials on a scale and price that a DIY Scientist can use and afford.
The company runs on the premise that consumer biotech will be huge. We want to give people the ability to genetically design things at home that are not just experiments but can actually be useful like engineering brewing and baking yeasts (http://www.the-odin.com/genetically-engineer-any-brewing-or-baking-yeast-to-fluoresce/) We plan to move into plants soon also. Who knows where we will end up.
I started the company in 2013 working nights and weekends to fulfill orders and working as a Synthetic Biology fellow at NASA during the day. In late 2014 I decided to make a DIY Bacterial genome engineering CRISPR kit(http://www.the-odin.com/diy-bacterial-gene-engineering-crispr-kit/) and raised ~$70k through crowdfunding. In 2015 we made around $200k and this year we are projected to make near $500k. We are growing at 10% or more month over month since August 2016.
