Born in Bavaria, he has been Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Healthy Aging at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden and Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Diseases since 2015. At the same time, he holds the W3 professorship for internal medicine with a focus on geriatric medicine and endocrinology. Before that, his professional career took him to the Center for Internal Medicine at the Phillips University in Marburg (1999-2007), where he received recognition as a specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology and diabetology and as a sports physician. In 2002, Prof. Hofbauer habilitated in the subject of internal medicine, after obtaining his doctorate in 1995. medical graduated. He laid the cornerstone of his medical training between 1988 and 1994 while studying human medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, which was accompanied by several stays abroad in the USA, France and Japan. From 1996-1999 Hofbauer worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (USA). Prof. Hofbauer has already received several awards for his research activities, he coordinates various national and European research consortia and has over 350 scientific publications and two patents. His scientific topics range from "diabetes and bones" and "bone metastases" to "new therapies against osteoporosis" to "mobility in old age".
