Farhad Islami, MD, PhD, is a cancer epidemiologist and Scientific Director of Surveillance Research at the American Cancer Society. His work is mainly on monitoring and describing trends in cancer incidence, mortality, and survival rates in the United States and worldwide by sociodemographic factors to measure progress against cancer and to formulate etiologic hypotheses. His other major focus is on estimating the burden of cancer attributable to potentially preventable risk factors, which would be useful for priority setting in cancer prevention and control. He also conducts and collaborates on research focused on cancer disparities and cancer risk factors.
