SENS summarises young blood experiments including recent human plasma exchange

Dilution Solution hypothesis better explains the effects of parabiotic experiment & TPE

11-Jan-2021

Key points from article :

Heterechronic Parabiosis - surgically join circulation of a young and an old animal.

Older becomes youthful while young becomes functionally older.

“Infusion Solution' hypothesis" - factors in young blood is critical to keeping us young.

Another hypothesis is dilution solution - young blood dilutes the pro-ageing factors in old blood.

Byproducts of metabolism may also have some role.

Simple replacement of old blood with young (not sharing circulatory system) hasn't been as effective.

Diluting ageing plasma with saline plus albumin promotes dramatic rejuvenation in mice.

Similar experiment was done in 4 human volunteers aged 65 to 70.

Results were consistent with those in mice.

Alzheimer’s Management by Albumin Replacement trial - Therapeutic Plasma Exchange(TPE) slowed AD patients' cognitive decline.
