Deaths due to alcohol at its highest level in England since records began.

Someone is admitted to hospital every 30 seconds where drinking was a factor.

There were 5,843 deaths in 2017 where alcohol was the primary cause.

Liver disease accounts for around 80 per cent of these.

Up 6 per cent on previous year, and 17 per cent in a decade.

Over-40s account for 80 per cent of deaths.

Positive note is that overall numbers drinking to unsafe levels has dropped.
