Heart failure remote monitoring has disappointing results

12-Feb-2016

Key points from article :

Randomized study of 1500 patients with decompensated heart failure.

One group received connected weight scale and blood pressure monitor.

After 6 months both readmission rates and mortality were the same as people without health devices.

But half of patients had stopped remote monitoring in less than a month – and this is common in other studies.

COMMENT: How can technology encourage patients to engage with their own monitoring? I wonder if they had a little Buddy robot reminding them whether that would help.

The study was published in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal.
