Study finds significant reduction in disease mortality with chilly consumption

10-Nov-2020

Key points from article :

Regularly eating chilli peppers could help lengthen people’s lives.

Chilli eaters may have a significantly reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease(CVD) or cancer.

Consuming chillies has an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer and blood-glucose regulating effect.

Researchers collected health and dietary records of more than 570,000 individuals.

People who ate chillies had a 25% relative reduction in all-cause mortality than those who did not/rarely did.

They also had 26 and 23% relative reduction in CVD and cancer mortality respectively.

"The exact reasons and mechanisms that might explain our findings, though, are currently unknown.” - Dr. Bo Xu, lead author.

More research is needed to confirm these preliminary findings.

Research by Cleveland Clinic to be presented at American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2020.
