Unmanned Star robot has been used to stitch together a pig’s bowel.

Other systems (e.g. da Vinci) are really extension tools controlled by a surgeon.

Robot performed slightly better than skilled humans in terms of stitch positioning.

Dr Kim: “This machine will consistently throw in 20 perfect sutures.”

The study was published in the Science Translational Medicine journal.
