Blood pressure measurement at a distance using camera and AI

Not accurate enough (yet) for self-tracking, but could quickly identify people with hypertension

07-Dec-2022

Key points from article :

University of South Australia has designed a system that measures a patient’s blood pressure with a camera.

Focuses on two regions of forehead to optically determine photoplethysmographic signals.

AI algorithms then convert to blood pressure data.

Currently 90% as accurate as traditional pressure cuff measurements.

Could provide contact-free measurements in as little as ten seconds.

Tested in 25 volunteers with different skin tones and in different ambient light conditions.
