At-home blood testing device approved for cancer patients in the UK

Greater convenience for patients and could potentially reduce NHS costs

10-May-2024

Key points from article :

A new device called Liberty allows cancer patients to take blood tests at home.

Patients can upload the results of the blood tests without supervision.

The device reduces the need for hospital visits for blood tests, as well as reduce costs and improve NHS productivity.

After being trialled at the Christie, in Manchester, the device will now be deployed at 12 NHS sites.

Trials showed promising results but more research is needed before wider use.

Cancer Research UK says the small number of trial participants is a cause for caution.

"..empowers healthcare professionals to pre-emptively address complications, reducing hospitalizations and treatment interruptions," - Toby Basey-Fisher, CEO of Entia
