A study on mice reveals C60 is of no benefit to longevity

Even if supplement really contains C60 it's likely to have degraded into toxic species

05-Nov-2020

Key points from article :

Buckminsterfullerene (C60) is a potent antioxidant reported to extend the lifespan of rodents when formulated in olive oil (C60-OO) or extra virgin olive oil (C60-EVOO).

People have begun obtaining it from online sources and dosing it to themselves or their pets.

Researchers has recently evaluated commercially available C60 supplements to determine the contents and the effect of C60 prepared in-house.

C60-OO from online vendors has found marked discrepancies in appearance, impurity profile, concentration.

C60 formulated in-house may degrade into harmful compounds during storage in olive oil.

With injected or ingested C60, they didn’t find significant benefits and findings raise doubts in improving lifespan and health.

C60-OO causes toxic species that can cause morbidity and mortality in mice under 2 weeks when exposed to light.

This isn’t just a case of “buyer beware”, it is an example of the need for safety and efficacy tests for supplements.
