​Stephen Cave is a philosopher, diplomat, and writer. He earned his PhD in philosophy from the University of Cambridge, where he also taught, before joining the British Foreign Office. He served as a policy advisor, overseeing a range of international negotiations, and in diplomatic roles. He was First Secretary (Europe) at the British Embassy in Berlin, and also worked on secondment at the German Foreign Ministry, representing Germany in the EU. More recently he has been a successful writer and commentator on a wide range of philosophical and scientific subjects, including the future of artificial intelligence. His book Immortality was a New Scientist book of the year in 2012. He has written for The Financial Times, The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired, The Atlantic, and others, and appeared on television and radio including the BBC, CBC, NPR and PBS, and as a TED speaker. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.​​
