Kei Hayashida

Research scientist

Kei Hayashida, MD, PhD is currently a research scientist at the Dept. of Emergency Medicine and the Laboratory for Critical Care Physiology at Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research (FIMR), Northwell Health System, NY. He is an emergency medicine physician, intensivist, and anesthesiologist in Japan. His research encompasses both basic science and clinical research in critical care and resuscitation science. In particular, he has been focusing on translational research to prevent ischemia-reperfusion injuries in organs including the brain and heart. As a physician-scientist, he has been researching in the field of critical care for more than 15 years, pioneering advances in improving the quality of critical care interventions and developing the novel strategy after cardiac arrest in animals and humans. His experiences and skills have helped define reperfusion injury mechanisms, mitochondrial oxidant generation, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species response to ischemia, apoptotic activation following ischemia, signaling pathways, new cellular cytoprotective strategies, and hypothermia protection.
