Kao-Ping Chua
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases at University of Michigan Medical School
Dr. Kao-Ping Chua is a general pediatrician and health services researcher in the Department of Pediatrics and the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center at the University of Michigan. He completed his pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center in 2010. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. in health policy from Harvard University in 2015.
Dr. Chua’s research focuses on opioid prescribing and policy, prescription drugs, and low-value care, particularly as these topics relate to children and young adults. He is the recipient of the 2016 Academic Pediatric Association Young Investigator Award and holds a career development award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. His studies have been published in journals such as JAMA, BMJ, JAMA Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics, and have been covered by national media outlets such as CNN, NPR, and Forbes.
