Professor of Haemostasis and Thrombosis at Barts and the London.
As a haematologist specialising in haemostasis and thrombosis I am concerned with patients whose blood either clots too readily, resulting in venous thromboembolic disease, or not readily enough, causing bleeding disorders. I have a particular clinical interest in thrombosis, which can be due to an inherited condition or that results from age-related and chronic disease-related changes during later life. I also see patients with a variety of bleeding problems including genetic conditions such as von Willebrand disease and haemophilia. I am keen to promote good practice in haematology so that patients everywhere can get the best possible care, so have helped to develop various national guidelines concerned with how haemostatic and thrombotic disorders should be optimally treated.
