Ioan Matei
Co-founder and Senior Scientist at CellFabrik, Scientific Researcher at IBAR
Ioan has a background in regenerative medicine, cell therapies, stem cell biology, diabetes and aging. He has worked in endocrine pancreatic cell differentiation, starting with his Ph.D. at the Nippon Dental University Graduate School at Tokyo, where he studied dental mesenchymal stem cell differentiation into endocrine pancreatic cells and devised an in vitro model of glucotoxicity mitigation, as a recipient of the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho MEXT Scholarship.
During his postdoctoral years, he worked at OncoGen Timisoara, and then as part of the Dia-Cure project at Titu Maiorescu University’s Cajal Institute and CEMT Fundeni, headed by Prof. Sarah Ferber of Sheba Medical Center, Tel Aviv University and Orgenesis Ltd, studying the modulation of diabetic liver-to-pancreas transdifferentiation.
Ioan currently works in aging research and synthetic biology as part of the Systems Biology of Aging Group, assessing longevity-promoting genetic interventions in C. elegans for corroborating synergistic gene interactions generated through bioinformatic modelling, as well as automating C.elegans lifespan measurements for interventional studies of age-related diseases.
