DGIST is an Institute of Science and Technology established by the Korean government to benefit society through development and advancement of science and engineering. DGIST, established as a research institute in 2004, redefined its roles and responsibilities as a research-oriented university by opening its graduate program in 2011 and the undergraduate program in 2014, thereby expanding the organization where a university and research institute co-exist. DGIST has been ranked as the 7th in Nature Index 2019 Top 25 rising young universities.
