Chen Wang

President of CAMS and Peking Union Medical College (PUMC).

Chen Wang is currently the President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, and Director of the Center of Respiratory Diseases of China-Japan Friendship Hospital. Having served as a senior leader of numerous top national medical institutions—including the Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, the Beijing Hospital, the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, the National Health Commission (Ministry of Health), and the national academies—he has taken a thorough approach to medical technology innovation system while remaining active in clinical practices as chief physician, specializing in complex and rare respiratory conditions.

Wang led the design and implementation of crucial measures for the prevention and control of COVID-19, including formulation of clinical guidelines, utilization of Fangcang shelter hospital, clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of Lopinavir-Ritonavir and Remdesivir in COVID-19 patients. He proposed a novel “Fangcang shelter hospital” approach in Wuhan, obviating the risk of within-household and community transmission and contributing to the successful COVID-19 control in China.

Wang has published more than 250 articles in international medical journals, including New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet.
