Anil Seth

Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex.

Anil directs the Neurodynamics and Consciousness Laboratory (NCL) and co-directs the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science (SCCS) at the University of Sussex. Together, the groups comprise about 10 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers spanning multiple disciplines (maths, statistics, cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology). He is responsible for about GBP 2 million of funding, obtained from EPSRC (he is an EPSRC Leadership Fellow), The Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation, and the EU. His primary research interests are (i) unravelling the neural mechanisms underlying consciousness, in humans and other animals, in health and in disease and (ii) creating and applying new methods for identifying causal networks from brain imaging data. His work has been featured in many media outlets including the New Scientist, The Times, and The Observer.
