All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries)
1st book in Murderbot Diaries series by Martha Wells
In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids - SecUnits - for their own safety.
But this SecUnit is self-aware and has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.
Adrian's Review - May 2020
An enjoyable action packed read, certainly had me keen to read the next chapter every time.
It wasn't clear to me as to the difference between a SecUnit (part human, part machine - I think) and the augmented humans, apart from superior weaponary and rejuvenation technology. So, possible, could just as well been a disgruntled mercenary as a self-contemplating hybrid. But definitely an interesting enough idea to make me want to find out more in the next book in the series.
