Alberto Gonzalez Ortiz

Project manager Air quality data and policy assessments at EEA.

From 2003 to 2011, Alberto worked in the Ministry of Environment, Spain, first as Senior Technician on Air Quality and afterwards as Head of Unit of Air Quality (AQ). He was in charge of the implementation of AQ legislation at Spanish national level, including drafting the Spanish laws, coordinating the regional authorities work, and drafting the Spain National Plan to Improve the Air Quality. He was also the QA/QC manager of the Spanish EMEP network, and Spain representative to FAIRMODE, EU Commission´s Air Ambient and VOCs Committees, and EMEP´s Steering Body and Task Force on Measurement and Modelling.

 

From 2011 until today he holds a position in the European Environment Agency (EEA) as Project manager on Air quality data and policy assessments. During this period he had worked as project manager of the Air Implementation Pilot project; in the development of the Implementation Provisions of the AQ Directive; in several European assessments of air quality; on the production of air quality indicators and air pollution country fact-sheets; supporting the European Commission, among others, analyzing the attainment status in the different AQ zones and assessing monitoring stations siting and classification; and maintaining the Air Data Centre and updating the EEA Thematic Webpage on air pollution.
