Surgeons would use robots if they reduced the risks

Very little research exists into the frequency of unintentional surgical damage.

Could happen in as many as 1 in 5 procedures.

Majority of surgeons said they would be prepared to use robotic tools if they reduced the risks of injury to patients.

Semi-autonomous robotic tools would allow surgeons to concentrate on deciding what is wrong with the patient and how to treat it.

The study was published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery.
