Key points from article :

A new clinical trial called Determine is being launched in Scotland to test a new treatment for rare cancers.

The trial will match people with rare cancers with existing medications that are already being used to treat other cancer patients.

It is expected that around 500 to 650 people across the UK will be able to benefit from the trial.

The trial is expected to last for five years.

If the trial is successful, it could lead to these medications being approved for use in the NHS to treat rare cancers.

“We are hopeful that patients across the UK will be able to access treatments that have been approved for other types of cancer," - Patricia Roxburgh, Principal investigator.

The trial is open to people with rare cancers or cancers with very specific genetic faults.

Trial being run by the University of Manchester and Cancer Research UK.
