19-Sep-2019

Key points from article :

NeuroEM Therapeutics has developed a cap, called the MemorEM, to fight Alzheimer's disease.

Bathing cap-style head device delivers electromagnetic waves to the brain.

Aim is to dissolve oligomers (groups of abnormal proteins) – as they are forming.

The study involved 8 people with what was described as mild to moderate AD.

Participants wore the device twice a day (1 hour each morning and afternoon) for 2 months.

7 patients showed an average improvement of 4 points or more on the ADAS-cog test scale.

Patients also showed meaningful improvements on a test of immediate word recall.

Increase in tau protein in blood might suggest that the clumps of protein were being broken down.

Study led by University of South Florida published in Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
