Minoxidil's potential to restore elastin - can it be more useful?

Needs to find minoxidil analogues that can restore elastin without side effects

14-Jun-2019

Key points from article :

Minoxidil lays more elastin on vessel walls therefore reversing ageing related stiffening of blood vessels.

If used at doses to replace elastin it can cause oedema around the heart.

So it cannot be used as an antihypertensive, but instead it is used in popular hair growth products.

Future research may lead to a minoxidil analogue that does not have serious side effects at usefully high doses.

The study was published in Cellular Signalling.
