Mice with extra-long telomeres lived longer

Will we be able to have a longer lifespan by lengthening our telomeres too?

21-Oct-2019

Key points from article :

Scientists shows a strong link between telomere length and lifespan in animals.

Induced pluripotent stem cells in a petri dish, end up with extra-long telomeres.

Used embryonic cells with these doubly long telomeres and bred chimeric mice.

These mice lived an average of 24% longer and were slimmer, and less likely to develop cancer.

Potential to open up new ways of being able to take advantage of this connection.
