Headspace, the well-known meditation and mental wellness platform, has launched a new direct-to-consumer (DTC) clinical therapy offering, now available across all 50 U.S. states. This new service, called Therapy by Headspace, connects users with licensed therapists via one-on-one video sessions to treat conditions like anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders. The move marks a shift from Headspace’s traditional partnerships with employers and health plans, aiming to widen access to therapy for individuals who might not be covered through work.
A recent survey conducted by Headspace revealed that nearly 75% of adults considering therapy face barriers, with cost being the most significant. To address this, Headspace is now in-network with over 45 insurance providers, allowing most users to pay between $0 and $35 per session. For those without insurance coverage, the cost is $149 per session, offered on a pay-per-session basis without a subscription. The service is currently limited to adults but promises fast access—typically within two days.
In addition to live therapy, DTC users will receive three months of complimentary access to the Headspace app, which includes guided meditations, stress and sleep tools, and Ebb, the company’s AI chatbot. Designed by clinical psychologists, Ebb offers real-time emotional support and personalized guidance between therapy sessions. Future plans include AI-powered assessments and individualized care plans, allowing Ebb to route users to the right services and help providers track user needs more precisely.
With this launch, Headspace continues to build a full continuum of mental health care—ranging from self-guided support to text-based coaching and now full therapy. As Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Jenna Glover puts it, “Everyone needs mental healthcare. Not everyone needs the same kind.” This new offering aims to bring greater personalization, accessibility, and insurance integration into the evolving mental health landscape.
