Smart glasses with a high-resolution camera and earpiece to reduce waiting lists for heart procedures.

Basildon is the UK's first hospital to use the smart glasses for replacing diseased heart valves.

The glasses share live video and audio with industry experts - who can zoom in and advise on medical equipment during surgery.

Cardiologist Christopher Cook said the glasses allow experts to supervise multiple procedures simultaneously in different locations.

With the help of remote experts, the hospital is hoping to schedule four procedures a day.

Wait time for TAVI procedure decreased from 7 months in 2021 to 2.5 months at the ending of 2022.

Cook added: "Reduction has been achieved with the same amount of working space but improvements to the efficiencies."

The smart glasses also mean staff can be trained remotely.
