Air pollution linked to serious acute health problems

Does more than just reducing life expectancy, and needs to be tackled very soon

21-Oct-2019

Key points from article :

Higher air pollution in the UK triggers more heart attacks, strokes and acute asthma attacks.

On days with high pollution levels additional hospital admissions were seen across nine cities.

Number of additional admissions were 231 for stroke, 193 for asthma and 124 cardiac for arrests.

Cutting air pollution by a fifth would decrease incidence of lung cancer by 5% to 7%.

Evidence suggests this as a health emergency.

Need urgent action to reduce pollution and improve air quality.
