Hagan Bayley

Professor of Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford

Hagan Bayley is the Professor of Chemical Biology at the University of Oxford. He is also the co-founder of Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd. Bayley lab is mainly working towards developing engineered protein nanopores for stochastic detection, including single-molecule covalent chemistry and ultrarapid biopolymer sequencing. Recently, the Bayley lab has developed techniques for the fabrication of 3D tissues, both living and synthetic.

Research interests include protein chemistry, molecular genetics, biophysics and cell biology. Much of the work is centered on membrane proteins, especially channels and pores.

In 2018, Professor Bayley held the Kavli Chair at the Delft University of Technology and he is currently a Program Director of the Oxford Martin School. Following his PhD, Bayley completed postdoctoral research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
