Professor of Hepatology at University College London
Professor Rajiv Jalan is a globally recognised clinician-scientist and Professor of Hepatology at University College London, as well as a consultant hepatologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London, where he combines patient care with leading translational research into liver failure and advanced liver disease. He founded and heads the UCL Liver Failure Group, has helped define the clinical syndrome acute-on-chronic liver failure, and has pioneered novel therapies including extracorporeal liver support systems like Dialive and other innovative treatments developed through his spin-out company Yaqrit. With a career spanning decades of clinical work, research leadership, and editorial roles in major hepatology journals, Jalan’s work focuses on reducing death from severe liver disease and translating scientific discoveries into real-world medical advances.
