Human Longevity Laboratory

Researchers investigating ageing and longevity

The Human Longevity Laboratory (HLL) is a research initiative within the Potocsnak Longevity Institute at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Directed by Dr. Douglas E. Vaughan, the HLL is dedicated to understanding the complex relationship between chronological age and biological age. It conducts comprehensive assessments across various physiological systems, including cardiovascular, respiratory, neurocognitive, metabolic, and musculoskeletal domains, to precisely measure biological age. The laboratory's cutting-edge approach involves molecular profiling of the epigenome, proteome, and transcriptome to gain insights into the ageing process. By enrolling a diverse cross-sectional cohort, the HLL aims to develop AI-based tools capable of identifying markers of healthy ageing. Ultimately, the laboratory seeks to pioneer interventions that could potentially slow down or reverse the ageing process, enabling individuals to live longer, healthier lives.
