U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to funding innovative scientific research
The BrightFocus Foundation is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to funding innovative scientific research aimed at curing Alzheimer's disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Founded in 1973 as the American Health Assistance Foundation, it was renamed BrightFocus in 2013 to better reflect its mission: "Cure in Mind. Cure in Sight."
Operating from Clarksburg, Maryland, BrightFocus has invested nearly $300 million in research grants across 25 countries, supporting over 6,000 scientists. Its three flagship programs—Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Macular Degeneration Research, and National Glaucoma Research—fund high-risk, high-reward projects that explore novel approaches to diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
