NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)

Biomedical Research Centre focused on the conversion of lab-based research in ageing into benefits for patients and health system

The NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) brings together the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Newcastle Hospitals) and the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University.

We are one of 20 BRCs across England awarded major funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to bring together academics and clinicians to translate lab-based scientific breakthroughs into potential new treatments, diagnostics and medical technologies.

The NIHR Newcastle BRC is the only one in the country dedicated to the study of ageing and long-term conditions, improving the lives of people here in the North East, across the UK and beyond. This is particularly important in the region, where health and ageing inequality is significantly higher than in the South.
