Professor of Nanotechnology at The University of Buckingham in the UK
After both industrial and academic posts in Switzerland and the UK, in recent years Jeremy has cofounded several high-technology start-up companies, engaged in air quality sensors and nanomaterials, among others. He remains Hon. Professor of Nanotechnology at the University of Buckingham. His most recent book is Climate Change from First Principles; he has also authored books on nanotechnology and bioinformatics. Much of his research concerns nanomaterials and nanometrology, including in situ measurements of living cells. Jeremy has authored or coauthored more than 250 research papers, made a comparable number of conference presentations, coinvented 3 patents and served as visiting professor in Argentina, France, Georgia, Hungary and Japan. His undergraduate studies were at the University of Cambridge and he received his PhD from the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), after which he was at Princeton University for postdoctoral studies. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3) and a IUPAC Fellow. Since 2019 he chairs the Resources Strategy Group of IoM3, which examines policies for waste and the circular economy.
