The University was inaugurated in 1996 with the Faculty of Psychology, followed in 1998 by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and in 2002 by the Faculty of Philosophy. UniSR has been characterized since its origin, according to the founder's desire, by a close integration in teaching with research in its various expressions (basic, philosophical, social, etc.) and in clinical activity.
