Tan Hong Chang

Senior consultant in endocrinology at Singapore General Hospital (SGH)

Tan Hong Chang is a senior consultant in endocrinology at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and serves as Research Director at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Diabetes Centre, where he combines clinical care with research focused on metabolic diseases such as obesity, lipid disorders, and type 2 diabetes. He earned his medical degree at National University of Singapore (NUS), followed by specialist training in internal medicine and endocrinology at SGH — and also holds a Masters of Clinical Investigation from NUS. He has published extensively on topics including glucose regulation, metabolism, bariatric surgery outcomes, lipid management, and the interplay between obesity and diabetes, reflecting a deep interest in how the body acquires, transports, and utilizes nutrients to influence metabolic health. In addition to his clinical duties, he is involved in academic teaching (with NUS’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School) and plays a leading role in mentoring clinician-researchers; his long-term goal is to translate metabolic research into improved therapies and care for patients with chronic metabolic conditions.
