Institute Professor and Professor Emeritus of Biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Phillip A. Sharp is an Institute Professor and Professor Emeritus of Biology at MIT, well known for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of gene expression, including RNA splicing and the roles of noncoding RNAs. Before retiring his lab, Sharp’s research explored transcriptional control, RNA processing, and how chromatin and splicing interact. Over his career he has earned many honours, including the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1993, and remains a leading voice in molecular biology and biotechnology.
