Louise Hecker

Associate Professor of Medicine in Emory University

Louise Hecker, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in Emory’s Division of Pulmonology, a research scientist at the Atlanta VA, and a Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Investigator. She is recognized for her pioneering work in regenerative biology and targeting oxidative-stress pathways, particularly Nox4, to prevent fibrosis. After earning her PhD in applied physics from the University of Michigan in 2008, she became inspired by amphibians’ regenerative abilities and shifted her focus to mammalian tissue repair. Since joining Emory in 2020, she has screened over 35,000 compounds to develop Nox4 inhibitors for aging-related lung diseases and founded two companies, Regenerative Solutions and Fibronox, to translate her research into clinical therapies.
