Kelvin Yen

Research assistant professor at University of Southern California, School of Gerontology

Kelvin Yen, Ph.D., attended U.C. Berkeley as an undergraduate where he earned his degree in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology and minored in computer science. He subsequently earned his Ph.D. at Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York University in Neuroscience in the lab of Dr. Charles Mobbs. Because aging is a nearly universal phenomenon, Dr. Yen is interested in conserved mechanisms to increase healthspan and lifespan such as dietary restriction, temperature manipulation, decreasing insulin/IGF signaling, and specific mitochondrial mutations. He uses worms, mice, and both fly and human cell culture in his research. He is currently studying the signaling pathway between the mitochondria, the cell, and the rest of the body.
