Clinical psychologist and prolific author
Howard J. Rankin Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and prolific author whose career spans academic research, clinical practice, and popular-science writing. He earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from University of London, began his professional journey in the Addiction Research Unit at the Institute of Psychiatry, and later taught at both the University of London and University of Oxford. Over time he transitioned from academia to clinical practice and consultancy, working with addiction and eating-disorder units before moving to the United States, where he directed a residential behavioral-health program and developed a private practice using neurofeedback and other neurotechnologies. Beyond clinical work, he has written, co-written, or ghostwritten dozens of nonfiction books and scientific articles, and now contributes to public discourse on mental health, neuroscience, communication, and human behavior through essays, a podcast, and books aimed at both lay and professional audiences.
