Christian Tackenberg

Neuroscientist at the University of Zurich

Christian Tackenberg is a neuroscientist at the University of Zurich’s Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM) whose work centres on using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to understand and treat brain disorders. He studies how different genetic factors—especially variations of the APOE gene—affect brain cell metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease, distinguishing the harmful role of APOE4 from the protective effect of APOE2. On the stroke front, his lab develops cell‐based therapies: they derive neural progenitor cells from iPSCs and transplant them into mouse models of ischemic brain injury to promote regeneration—looking at how safely and effectively these cells differentiate, integrate, and survive in the damaged brain over time.
