Bérénice Benayoun
Associate Professor at the University of Southern California's Leonard Davis School of Gerontology
Dr. Bérénice Benayoun is an Assistant Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, with secondary appointments in the USC Dornsife College’s Department of Molecular and Computational Biology and the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. She joined USC in 2017 after earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the École Normale Supérieure de Paris and Université Paris Diderot-Paris 7. Her PhD research focused on a transcription factor linked to a human syndrome causing premature menopause, and her postdoctoral work identified a key chromatin signature of cell identity and transcriptional consistency, which changes with ageing. Her lab’s current research explores how the epigenome and transcriptome remodel with ageing in vertebrates, particularly in relation to biological sex, and she is pioneering the use of the African turquoise killifish as a new model for ageing research. Dr. Benayoun has received numerous accolades, including the 2020 Pew Biomedical Scholar and the 2021 Nathan Shock New Investigator awards, and serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals.
