Molecular microbiologist at Imperial College London
Dr Andrew Edwards is a molecular microbiologist at Imperial College London whose research explores how antibiotics interact with bacteria at the molecular level, why some pathogens evade treatment, and how these insights can be used to design more effective therapies. His work spans the mechanisms that allow hard-to-treat bacteria—particularly dangerous Gram-negative species—to block or expel drugs, as well as strategies to predict and counter emerging resistance. By combining detailed laboratory experiments with advanced analytical approaches, he aims to improve antibiotic performance and support the development of new treatments for life-threatening infections.
